Vishaal Mehra, MD, CPI

Dr. Vishaal Mehra attended Texas A&M Health Science Center for his Medical Degree, and then completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. He worked in a variety of clinical Psychiatric settings prior to beginning his career as an Investigator in clinical research in 2007. As a Principal Investigator, his main areas of expertise include Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Opiate Addiction. Additionally, Dr. Mehra has worked closely with Sponsors and CROs to promote study-wide trial success, acting as a liaison for other Principal Investigators and the sponsor for several trials. Dr. Vishaal Mehra founded Artemis Institute for Clinical Research in 2008.

Purvi Mehra, MD, CPI

Dr. Purvi Mehra attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for her Medical Degree. After completing her residency in Internal Medicine at Scripps Mercy, Dr. Mehra went on to complete a fellowship in Allergy/Immunology at Scripps Clinic. She has been a Clinical Investigator since 2004. Her work has been published in numerous peer reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Mehra’s areas of research expertise include Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Vaccine development. She joined the Artemis Research team in 2013.

Ildiko Kovacs, MD

Principal Investigator/San Marcos Site (Psychiatry/Neurology Division)

“I have been involved in research, both basic and clinical, throughout my entire career. I’m eager to see progress made in new drug developments so we can offer better medicine and methods to treat mental illnesses. At Artemis there’s a true team spirit. We’re all dedicated to providing great service to our study sponsors and to the volunteers. Artemis is a company with a broad vision and long-term plans.”

Dr. Ildiko Kovacs attended Semmelweis Medical School in Budapest, Hungary for her Medical Degree. After moving to the United States, she was a postdoctoral fellow in Molecular Biology research at the University of Arizona, Stanford University, and Scripps Research Institute, completed an internship in Neurology at St. Louis University, and finally her residency in Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Kovacs has been published in numerous peer reviewed articles in high impact journals. She remains on the UCSD faculty, and began her career in clinical research in 2002. As a Principal Investigator, her main areas of expertise include Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Alzheimer’s Dementia. She joined the Artemis research team in 2010.

Stacey Layle, MD

Dr. Layle attended Wayne State University School of Medicine for her Medical Degree, and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. She then served as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Navy for 8 years where she cared for Navy and Marine Corps active duty and dependents across the world. She returned to civilian practice working in a variety of primary care clinical settings prior to beginning her career in clinical research. As a Principal Investigator, her main areas of research expertise include Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Gastrointestinal illnesses. Dr. Layle joined the Artemis Research team in 2012.

Jill Sniffen, MS
Vice President of Operations

“My passion for clinical research was sparked during my undergraduate studies in psychology. Since then, I have been committed to ensuring the safety and efficacy of potential treatments, the integrity of data collected, and the protection of study patients. I am reminded each day that a family member or someone I know may end up taking a medication that I helped get to market; I take that responsibility seriously, and it motivates me to keep raising the bar. Joining Artemis has allowed me to focus on a key aspect of clinical research: the patient. I am excited to be a part of the Artemis team and contribute to the vision of excellence.”

Jill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from San Diego State University and a Master of Science degree in Psychology from Lehigh University. She began her clinical research career in 1992 and was fortunate to be involved in the DSM IV Field Trials, as well as the execution of several pivotal studies associated with marketed compounds. Prior to joining Artemis in 2017, Jill has held key management positions with West Coast Biotech and Global CROs.

Beth Panella, MA, CCRC
Director of Clinical Operations

“As a member of the Artemis team, my goal is to continue to strengthen the research alliance with our pharmaceutical clients and research participants. At Artemis, our team is driven to ensure subjects have a safe and comfortable experience, our qualified staff members are collecting the highest quality data possible, and pharmaceutical clients feel connected to our site, staff, and the data. The culture of our company is that clinical research is more than a ‘job’ and that our work contributes to the greater good of humanity. All staff members at Artemis embody this culture and hold it in high regard because it could be our families, friends, or ourselves receiving these compounds one day.”

Beth attended Western Illinois University for her undergraduate degree in Psychology and subsequently earned a Master of Arts degree in Psychology at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She has worked with a variety of mental health indications, including children and adult, prior to starting her research career as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Indianapolis, IN. After relocating to San Diego, she joined the Artemis team in 2011.

Leah Reyes
Director of Patient Recruitment

Leah Reyes attended Virginia Commonwealth University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Prior to starting her career in research she worked in various laboratory settings as a bench chemist. She started her career in clinical research in 2001, working at both the site level in clinical operations and at the Sponsor level as a site trainer. She joined the Artemis Research team in 2015.
