Vishaal Mehra, MD, CPI

Dr. Vishaal Mehra attended Texas A&M Health Science Center for his Medical Degree, and then completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. He worked in a variety of clinical Psychiatric settings prior to beginning his career as an Investigator in clinical research in 2007. As a Principal Investigator, his main areas of expertise include Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Opiate Addiction. Additionally, Dr. Mehra has worked closely with Sponsors and CROs to promote study-wide trial success, acting as a liaison for other Principal Investigators and the sponsor for several trials. Dr. Vishaal Mehra founded Artemis Institute for Clinical Research in 2008.


Purvi Mehra, MD, CPI

Dr. Purvi Mehra attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for her Medical Degree. After completing her residency in Internal Medicine at Scripps Mercy, Dr. Mehra went on to complete a fellowship in Allergy/Immunology at Scripps Clinic. She has been a Clinical Investigator since 2004. Her work has been published in numerous peer reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Mehra’s areas of research expertise include Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Vaccine development. She joined the Artemis Research team in 2013.

Matthew Geromi, DO

Board Certified in Psychiatry
Principal Investigator/San Marcos site (Psychiatry/Neurology Division)

With each study it is my duty to ensure quality within clinical trials while supporting study participants with compassion and respect. At Artemis, I am inspired by our dedicated staff and mission to improving healthcare with innovative practices and approaches.”

Dr. Geromi attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine for his Medical Degree. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami, FL where he served as Chief Resident. He has been involved in clinical research since 2010. Dr. Geromi is actively involved in medical education including faculty appointments at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. He serves as an oral board examiner for the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry as well as an exam-writer and committee member for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. As a Principal Investigator, his main areas of expertise include Depression, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD and Insomnia. He joined the Artemis research team in 2017.


Stacey Layle, MD

Principal Investigator/San Marcos Site (Internal Medicine Division)

It is very exciting and rewarding work, and I feel fortunate to have joined Artemis. It’s invigorating to be part of such a well-organized, first class team doing great collaborative work!”

Dr. Layle attended Wayne State University School of Medicine for her Medical Degree, and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. She then served as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Navy for 8 years where she cared for Navy and Marine Corps active duty and dependents across the world. She returned to civilian practice working in a variety of primary care clinical settings prior to beginning her career in clinical research. As a Principal Investigator, her main areas of research expertise include Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Gastrointestinal illnesses. Dr. Layle joined the Artemis Research team in 2012.

Jon Wilensky MD MBA FACS

Medical Director/Division Head (Medical Device and Emerging Technology Division)

“As the Division Head of Medical Device and Emerging Technologies for Artemis, I can confidently say that disruptive technology will transform healthcare as we know it. Implantable medical devices and minimally-invasive medical technologies are now reality and will play a vital role in both the prevention and management of disease. Being entrenched in this world and leading clinical trials for cutting edge technologies has been the highlight of my surgical career. It represents the opportunity to significantly impact the human condition.”

Dr. Jon Wilensky attended both undergraduate and medical school at the University of Michigan as part of the 7-Year Integrated BS-MD program and completed his residency training in Integrated Plastic Surgery at the University of Michigan Health System. Following completion of his residency, he has practiced Plastic Surgery in San Diego since 2006. He has been the Lead Surgeon on multiple clinical trials involving implantable sensors and implantable cellular therapeutic products. Particularly devoted to the strategy of technology commercialization, Dr. Wilensky received a fellowship from the UCSD Rady School of Management and obtained his MBA in 2017. As Division Head, he is able to assist sponsors in the development and commercialization of medical devices and technologies. Dr. Wilensky joined the Artemis team in 2017.

Jill Sniffen, MS

Vice President of Operations

“My passion for clinical research was sparked during my undergraduate studies in psychology. Since then, I have been committed to ensuring the safety and efficacy of potential treatments, the integrity of data collected, and the protection of study patients. I am reminded each day that a family member or someone I know may end up taking a medication that I helped get to market; I take that responsibility seriously, and it motivates me to keep raising the bar. Joining Artemis has allowed me to focus on a key aspect of clinical research: the patient. I am excited to be a part of the Artemis team and contribute to the vision of excellence.”

Jill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from San Diego State University and a Master of Science degree in Psychology from Lehigh University. She began her clinical research career in 1992 and was fortunate to be involved in the DSM IV Field Trials, as well as the execution of several pivotal studies associated with marketed compounds. Prior to joining Artemis in 2017, Jill has held key management positions with West Coast Biotech and Global CROs.


Beth Panella, MA, CCRC

Director of Clinical Operations

“As a member of the Artemis team, my goal is to continue to strengthen the research alliance with our pharmaceutical clients and research participants. At Artemis, our team is driven to ensure subjects have a safe and comfortable experience, our qualified staff members are collecting the highest quality data possible, and pharmaceutical clients feel connected to our site, staff, and the data. The culture of our company is that clinical research is more than a ‘job’ and that our work contributes to the greater good of humanity. All staff members at Artemis embody this culture and hold it in high regard because it could be our families, friends, or ourselves receiving these compounds one day.”

Beth attended Western Illinois University for her undergraduate degree in Psychology and subsequently earned a Master of Arts degree in Psychology at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She has worked with a variety of mental health indications, including children and adult, prior to starting her research career as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Indianapolis, IN. After relocating to San Diego, she joined the Artemis team in 2011.


Leah Reyes

Director of Patient Recruitment

Leah Reyes attended Virginia Commonwealth University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Prior to starting her career in research she worked in various laboratory settings as a bench chemist. She started her career in clinical research in 2001, working at both the site level in clinical operations and at the Sponsor level as a site trainer. She joined the Artemis Research team in 2015.

Rob Rifkin

Director of Business Operations

“If something is broken, then I want to fix it. If something is working, then I want to make it work better. I’ve always enjoyed helping people and, for me, supporting clinical research is more rewarding than other industries. I like knowing that I am contributing to work which will end up helping people worldwide.”

Rob Rifkin attended The Pennsylvania State University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts – General Arts and Sciences. At Penn State he focused on integrating computers into the workplace. After graduation, Rob supported several businesses through appropriate use of technology before starting with a CRO in 1999. He has been working in the clinical research industry since then and joined the Artemis team in 2017.
