Dr. Vishaal Mehra attended Texas A&M Health Science Center for his Medical Degree, and then completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. He worked in a variety of clinical Psychiatric settings prior to beginning his career as an Investigator in clinical research in 2007. As a Principal Investigator, his main areas of expertise include Schizophrenia, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Opiate Addiction. Additionally, Dr. Mehra has worked closely with Sponsors and CROs to promote study-wide trial success, acting as a liaison for other Principal Investigators and the sponsor for several trials. Dr. Vishaal Mehra founded Artemis Institute for Clinical Research in 2008.

Purvi Mehra

Dr. Purvi Mehra attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for her Medical Degree. After completing her residency in Internal Medicine at Scripps Mercy, Dr. Mehra went on to complete a fellowship in Allergy/Immunology at Scripps Clinic. She has been a Clinical Investigator since 2004. Her work has been published in numerous peer reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Mehra’s areas of research expertise include Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Vaccine development. She joined the Artemis Research team in 2013.

Stacey Layle

Stacey Layle, MD

It is very exciting and rewarding work, and I feel fortunate to have joined Artemis. It’s invigorating to be part of such a well-organized, first class team doing great collaborative work!”

Dr. Layle attended Wayne State University School of Medicine for her Medical Degree, and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. She then served as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Navy for 8 years where she cared for Navy and Marine Corps active duty and dependents across the world. She returned to civilian practice working in a variety of primary care clinical settings prior to beginning her career in clinical research. As a Principal Investigator, her main areas of research expertise include Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Gastrointestinal illnesses. Dr. Layle joined the Artemis Research team in 2012.

Katrina Patrick

Katrina Patrick, Ph.D.

Principal Investigator/Riverside Site (Psychiatry/Neurology Division)

“As a Principal Investigator, I have the privilege of partnering with the study volunteers to potentially make a real difference in the management of their illness, and therefore their lives, by advancing our understanding of the most effective treatments. I wholeheartedly believe that appropriate subject selection and quality data are an integral part of developing cutting edge interventions. By developing new treatments, we can offer hope to those who find themselves challenged by these diagnoses. I am thrilled to be working with my colleagues here at Artemis who share my passion for conducting first-class clinical trials.”

Dr. Patrick received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Social Behavior from UC Irvine. She then attended Palo Alto University for her Ph.D., where she focused on the study of women with PTSD. She worked extensively with consumers who were chronically and severely mentally ill as she completed her predoctoral internship at the Riverside County Department of Mental Health Blaine Street Clinic. Dr. Patrick then went on to complete her fellowship at Alliant International University where she worked as adjunct faculty and presented papers focusing on the Rorschach scoring system at the national conference for the Society of Personality Assessment. After licensure, she worked as a centralized rater in Phase III psychiatric clinical trials for almost 6 years. Since 2015, she has worked as an Investigator in Phase I and II clinical CNS pharmaceutical trials. As a Principal Investigator, her main areas of research expertise include, Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Patrick joined the Artemis Research team in 2018.

Eric M. Chavez

“Details are very important in research, and we focus on details at Artemis. From the details of accurate data collection to the details of managing individual patient needs during a clinical trial, I want to ensure that our research patients are treated with care and professionalism and that our studies are conducted in a safe and efficient manner. I take pride in contributing to progress in the development of new medical treatments and in the evolution of technology in research.”

Dr. Chavez completed his undergraduate degree at Harvard University and his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. After medical school and service in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Chavez completed psychiatry residency at the University of California San Diego and subsequently earned a Master of Science degree in Medical Informatics at Northwestern University. His interests include addiction disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, attention deficit disorder, pharmacogenomics, the application of technology in medicine, and medical information systems. Dr. Chavez also serves as medical director for the Artemis Medical Group and offers outpatient psychiatric and addiction treatment with medication management. Dr. Chavez joined the Artemis team in 2014.

Jacqueline Keller

Jacqueline Keller, MBA

Vice President, Sales and Marketing

“As the VP of Sales and Marketing I am dedicated to delivering the best patient experience every day across all Artemis sites. People who take time out of their busy schedules to volunteer for a clinical study do so for many reasons: they may wish to help improve the health of future generations, or perhaps due to a personal connection to a specific disease. By ensuring they have a superior experience from their first contact with our patient recruitment center until their very last study visit, it is my goal to make them feel genuinely appreciated.”

Jacquie attended McGill University for undergraduate studies in Liberal Arts and Women’s Studies, followed by the University of Maryland, College Park where she earned an MBA. She has worked in healthcare for over 20 years managing clinical research departments in radiology at Johns Hopkins University and Boston University before moving to the medical device industry where she worked for start-ups, mid-sized and multinational companies. She most recently held a senior leadership position at Philips where she headed up innovation in image-guided therapy. Jacquie joined the Artemis Research team in 2018.

Beth Panella

All staff members at Artemis embody this culture and hold it in high regard because it could be our families, friends, or ourselves receiving these compounds one day.”

Beth attended Western Illinois University for her undergraduate degree in Psychology and subsequently earned a Master of Arts degree in Psychology at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She has worked with a variety of mental health indications, including children and adult, prior to starting her research career as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Indianapolis, IN. After relocating to San Diego, she joined the Artemis team in 2011.
